MERCEDES-BENZ S-CLASS DECLARED 2014 WORLD LUXURY CAR

While most automotive and marketing managers in Egypt and the Middle East are getting ready for starting a relaxing Easter Holiday today (Thursday), some of them will enjoy it more than the others.

Among those who will definitely enjoy their Easter vacation this weekend are the automotive and marketing managers at Mercedes Benz, as their Mercedes S-Class has been declared today the 2014 World Luxury Car at a press conference hosted by the New York International Auto Show and Bridgestone Corporation and thereby will make it even more difficult for its fiercest competitors, the BMW 7 series, the Audi Audi A8, the Maserati Quattroporte and the Bentley Continental.

This is the first year for the ‘Luxury Car’ award as part of the renowned World Car Award, as this new category was created to acknowledge higher-priced premium models selling in more limited numbers worldwide.

This year’s winner was chosen from an initial entry list of 10 prestigious cars from all over the world, then a short list of three finalists: the winner as well as the Bentley Flying Spur and the Range Rover Sport.

“It is not only our customers who expect a new S-Class to set standards – but also the journalists," says Prof. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management Daimler AG, responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, highlighting by this the importance of the professional motoring journalists and the importance of their job in reviewing and testing the new models as soon as they are available for media test-drives at the international media launch events or at separate local test-drives.

"The success of the S-Class in this category makes us very proud indeed, and once more demonstrates that we have met these expectations", continued Thomas Weber.

The World Car jurors observed that, “Mercedes dominates the big luxury sedan market worldwide and the challenge of the sixth-generation S-Class was to be even better than the fifth-gen model. They did it by creating a car so far advanced in this segment that competitors pretty much have ceased trying to go head-to-head with the S. The exterior is completely new and the interior is spectacular on a whole new level”.

Vehicles are selected and voted on by an international jury panel comprised of sixty-nine top-level automotive journalists from twenty-two countries around the world, including Auto Arabia editor-in-chief Mohamed Sheta.

Each juror was appointed by the World Car Steering Committee on the basis of his or her expertise, experience, credibility, and influence. Each juror typically drives and evaluates new vehicles on a regular basis as part of their professional work. Through their respective outlets they collectively reach an audience of many millions world-wide.

Now in their tenth year, the annual World Car Awards are now the number one awards program in the world based on Prime Research’s 2013 report. The awards were inaugurated in 2003, and officially launched in January 2004, to reflect the reality of the global marketplace, as well as to recognize and reward automotive excellence on an international scale.
